A message from Chris Tidman, Chief Finance Officer at the RD&E
I am sure that you are more than familiar with the challenges presented by parking at the RD&E Wonford site. Simply increasing the parking capacity on site is – for many reasons – not a viable option, so we are working hard to deliver and promote innovative alternate solutions. We have taken a number of steps to ease pressure on parking, including staff and patient park-and-ride schemes at Sowton and Digby, dedicated shuttle buses, a 33% discount on commuting via Stagecoach buses and subsidised cycle to work schemes for staff.
We are working on a number of other plans to reduce demand for on-site parking, but we are also asking staff to do what they can to help. The Trust’s Executive Team have made a pledge to leave their cars at home for at least one day a week, and we have asked staff to consider making the same pledge if they can, to help relieve the pressure on parking and to also reduce the impact on the environment.
We will in the near future be undertaking a promotional campaign to encourage patients and visitors to use the Sowton Park and Ride scheme. As powerful allies and advocates of the RD&E NHS Foundation Trust, I would like to ask you if you could also consider using the park and ride where possible and appropriate? It would be even more helpful if you could spread the word to use the Park and Ride to as many people as possible!
I hope you will join me in doing our best to lead by example in improving the immediate environment around our hospital.
Chris Tidman – Chief Finance Officer
