RD&E Annual Members’ Meeting & Medicine for Members’ Event 2019 – NOW FULLY BOOKED!

We’re  delighted to announce our Annual Members’ Meeting (AMM) and Medicine for Members’ Event  which provides an all-important opportunity for the Trust and our members to come together to share information and ideas.

Date :Wednesday 25th September
Venue: Peninsular Medical School Lecture Theatre RILD Building (Research, Innovation, Learning and Development) Centre, RD&E Hospital (Wonford) Exeter EX2 5DW

Time: 15.00 pm – 18.30 pm
(doors open from 3.00 pm)

Registration from 3.00 – 3.25 

(15.30 pm – 16.30 pm –
 two seminars,  running one after the other)

SEMINAR 1 : The Role of the Admiral Nurse in partnership with Dementia Care
(15 mins talk + Q&A)

Dementia is now a leading cause of death in England and Wales. There are approximately 850,000 people in the UK living with a dementia. This is predicted to soar to 2 million by 2051.
If you want to  find out about how this vital sector of society can be supported to live as well as they can within their dementia  then come and listen to the talk on the role of the Admiral Nurse.

Key Note Speaker: Chrissy Hussey
Chrissy Hussey is a Specialist Palliative Care Nurse and Specialist Dementia Nurse (Admiral Nurse) who is also the Dementia Lead Nurse for Hospiscare.

SEMINAR 2: Orthopaedics, Total Hip Replacement – “The Operation of the Century’
(15 mins talk + Q&A)

Key Note Speaker; Matthew Wilson 
Matthew Wilson is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in the hip Unit at the RD&E. He specialises in complex primary and revision (re-do) hip replacements and surgery for non-arthritic hip pain. The Exeter Hip Unit teaches surgeons from around the world in the techniques developed in Exeter since the 1960s and has outcome data that is amongst the best in the world

Mr Wilson  will an overview of the history hip replacement in Exeter culminating in the possibility of offering day-case arthroplasty for appropriate patients.

Seating space will be limited in the Lecture Theatre so please do notify us prior to the event if you need an additional place for a carer or need assistance for any sensory or mobility requirements on the day.

Getting to the RILD Building

If you aren’t familiar with the RD&E site click here for directions.
Members of the public are encouraged to use public transport where possible as parking at the hospital can be difficult.  Our Dartline PR3 & Park and Ride bus is quick and not expensive.
It runs from Wonford Hospital to Digby, in Exeter (near to Digby Tesco) visit for more info.

Car Parking

Unfortunately we are unable to issue tickets for you to park at the hospital for the event.
Note; Free car parking is available for blue badge holders (only) on the Wonford site- please display your badge clearly on the dashboard of your vehicle.
